Muse Masters - Season Two
A Performance Poetry Contest, The British Council in partnership with Monsoon Letters has successfully launched ‘Muse Masters’- the 1st ever performance poetry contest in Bangladesh in 2013. More than 750 young poets across the country participated in that nationwide bilingual poetry contest. The shortlisted top 20 poets participated in a two day basic performance poetry workshop from 19 to 20 February 2014, facilitated by InuaEllams, performance poet from the UK. The national competition was judged by renowned poet Kaisar Haq, Rubana Huq, Editor Monsoon Letters and Eeshita Azad, Head of Arts, British Council Bangladesh. Winners of the competition were awarded with an exposure visit to the UK to learn more about performance poetry. After the success of Muse Masters season 1, we are launching the season 2 of the nationwide performance poetry contest, Muse Masters . This time, we are running the competition in two different strands.
1. Performance Poetry Contest.
2. Written Poetry Contest.
The award of the performance poetry contest will be exposure tour to the UK and the for written part, it is a book publishing opportunity.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
General
*The competition is open to anyone aged 18 to 35.Submission opens on 25 December 2014. The closing date of the competition is 12:00 AM (GMT+6), 22 February 2015. The competition is only for the Bangladeshi Citizens residing in Bangladesh. One person can submit up to three poems in a single document. Under no circumstances can alterations be made to poems once entered. An email confirmation will be sent after asuccessful submission of the poem. The competition organisers reserve the right to change the judging panel without notice and not to award prizes if, in the judges’ opinion, such an action is justified. The judges’ decision is final and neither the judges nor the British Council and Monsoon Letter staffs will enter into any correspondence. No current employee of the British Council and Monsoon Letters are eligible to enter the Muse Masters Season 2 competition.
Poems
All poems must have a title and must not exceed 40 lines in length (excluding title). Entries can be on any subject. Name of the poet must be written after the poems title for each poem. Poems must be the original work of the entrant. Handwritten entries cannot be accepted. Entries should be typed and saved as a .doc,.docx, .pdf file. You can upload maximum three poems in a single document. Entries can be written both in English and Bangla. Poets can participate in Written or Performing Poetry Contest.
Winners & Prize
Shortlisted poets will be notified by email and SMS by the end of January. Prizes for performance poetry contest will be an exposer trip to the UK. Prizes for the written poetry contest will be a publication by Monsoon Letters. The copyright of each poem remains with the author. However, authors of the winning poems, by entering the competition, grant the British Council the right to publish and/or broadcast their poem with appropriate mentions.
